The benefits

For the first time public, private and third sector organisations within a city region are coming together to commit to reducing their carbon emissions.  By doing so Carbon Challenge members are demonstrating their leadership on climate change and positioning themselves for success in a low-carbon economy.

Joining the Carbon Challenge also brings wider benefits:
· action to cut CO2 emissions will help members develop successful long-term risk management strategies
· voluntary commitment to emissions cuts with enhanced reputation within the business community and with the wider public.

The West of England Carbon Challenge will set organisations on course to reach the national carbon targets, achieving 10% cuts by 2012, by helping them, first to understand and monitor their emissions performance, and by providing:

1)  free access to practical advice and support provided by Forum for the Future and the Centre for Sustainable Energy, from calculating a carbon emissions baseline to strategic development and innovation.
2)  free membership of a network of pioneering organisations sharing best practice, with expert input from leading sustainability organisations.

3)  free access to cutting edge, strategic thinking on approaches to carbon reduction, making members well-placed to respond to upcoming legislation, including the Carbon Reduction Commitment.
4)  start saving energy, waste and money through assessment of their members' carbon usage.
5)  a developing programme of events designed to respond to members' needs, drawing on expertise from our partners and external experts.
6)  annual awards, media coverage and PR celebrating members' success.
